Protein Power: The Future of Medicine

Proteins are the true heroes in your body. They are in every cell and ensure that you stay healthy. These marvels bind to other molecules and send important signals. But when something goes wrong, diseases like cancer can develop. Modern medicine is developing drugs that specifically target disease-causing proteins and correct their malfunction. An exciting new direction is allosteric binding sites.
Allostery means “binding elsewhere in the protein”, not at its main binding site. This approach offers new possibilities with fewer side effects. However, these interactions are complex and not fully understood. This is where the EU project ALLODD (“Allostery in Drug Discovery”) comes into play. At the University of Vienna, we are researching these innovative compounds with 12 partners to develop better drugs. Discover how these tiny building blocks are revolutionizing medicine and gain an exciting insight into protein research!
